I <3 Fan Art

February 18, 2011

IN AMERIKUH, WE LOVE OUR CELEBRITIES. THEIR IMAGES, SONGS, AND MOVIES BOMBARD US DAY AFTER DAY, SO IT’S ONLY NATURAL THAT WE HAVE AN URGE TO RESPOND.

Like watching the same porno clip over and over, after a while, I just get bored of the same stock AP photographs of celebs looking their very best. I have this uncontrollable desire to divert from the norm and search for new stimulation.

For me, celeb fan art achieves this purpose; I spend some time every day scouring the web for new, “alternative” images of my favorite stars.

Here are some I came across today—I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

Jessica Biel’s come a long way since her 7th Heaven days, and this piece perfectly captures the actress’s versatility. Her beauty and grace are timeless.

Here, we see Pikachu’s maternal side. Like the babes suckling on Pikachu’s teat, many Pokemon fanboys through the years have found both comfort and escape from their tormentors in the form of this furry, yellow critter.

Fleer/Skybox International LP thought highly enough of this artist’s portrayal of Mike “The Gator” Greenwell to use it as part of their 1991 series. While it’s unclear who or what the ominous green face in the background represents, I have my theories: since losing the 1988 MVP award to admitted steroid user Jose Canseco, Greenwell has become “green” with envy.

Biebs is so cute sometimes you just want to chop his head off…

…or scar his name into your arm

While Ashlee Simpson has fallen out of the spotlight since “Pieces of Me”, this high schooler’s doodle (black pen, magenta, yellow, blue highlighter on classroom textbook) acts as a reminder of the days when this cute little emo gal had us completely gripped—to the point of obsession. English class will never be the same…

Oprah Winfrey is 57 years old. While her most loyal fans may disagree, like all human beings, she has aged. Females who age get saggy boobs. And flabby skin. And gain a chin or two. Thank you to the artist for this refreshingly honest portrait.

Journey’s Steve Perry is a rock god known for his epic wails and stoic stage presence. If only his ailing vocal chords remained as sturdy as his indominable spirit.

Perhaps Sarah Palin’s political career would have fared better in the Victorian era, where this polished period piece places her. Then again, I’m pretty sure even people in the 19th Century believed dinosaurs were more than 5,000 years old.
